Inscape’s Director In Charity Challenge

On Saturday 14th June 2014, Inscape Interiors Operations Director Gary Wynne and his teammates Gordon Hogge, Darren Winstanley and Stephen Davies completed the famous Snowdonia Charity Challenge.

Set in the stunning Snowdonia National Park, the team of four cycled a total of 40 miles, climbed Wales’ highest mountain and canoed part way across Llyn (Lake) Gwynant – all to support fundraising for men and women paralysed in sporting accidents.

Snowdonia Challenge

From the peaks to the shores

Teams set off at one-minute intervals from 7am on the first stage of the challenge – a stunning 20 mile cycle ride along A or B class roads and unclassified country lanes.

This very steep and very bumpy climb led straight into the second stage – climbing Snowdon. At Rhyd Ddu, Gary and his team left their bikes and changed into walking gear for their ascent. Time was a factor, so they did not have much time to take in the view from the top before they had to set off down to be reunited with their bikes.

The second cycle leg was a fast and relatively flat 10-mile route to the shores of Llyn Gwynant, where the team paddled out, round the buoy and back to the starting point as fast as possible – 30 to 40 minutes of extreme effort in the face of pure exhaustion.

To the finish line

Gary and his teammates again took to their bikes for a final 10 mile push: a steep ascent to Pen yGwryd, a final gruelling climb of 365 metres to Pen y Pass, then back to Llanberis and a final dash for the finish line.

Inscape’s Managing Director Paul Mills said: “It was an inspiring feat of endurance and on behalf of the company I congratulate Gary and his friends. We continue to applaud and support our Inscape team members who give up their time and effort to support those less fortunate than themselves, and we hope our friends and colleagues will join with us in that support.”

In the past Inscape team members have undertaken many charitable challenges such as Christie Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride, The Three Peaks Challenge and the Christie Manchester 100 Bike Ride.
