The Cheshire & Merseyside Surgical Centre, located at Victoria Infirmary in Northwich, is part of Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Its development included the full refurbishment of the historic Verdin Ward, made possible through £18.2 million in funding from NHS England, via the NHS Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care Board.
The Centre features modern clinical facilities, including two theatres and areas for recovery and consultations. It offers services in ophthalmology, orthopaedics, ENT, dermatology, pain management, and general surgery, with a focus on treating high-volume, low-complexity cases.
It also serves as a centre of excellence for cataract surgery, initially prioritising patients who have waited over a year for treatment.
Aiming to treat around 12,000 patients annually, the Centre is expected to significantly reduce surgical backlogs and waiting times across the region.

Working once again with Kier Construction, we were appointed to deliver a fully HBN10-compliant system that required a high-specification, hygienic solution suitable for a clinical environment, and our GieniClad (Hygienic Cladding) Systems met all the necessary standards.
Manufactured to spec entirely from Solid Grade Laminate, our IPS units were constructed without the use of timber, ensuring long-term durability and compliance with infection control requirements. Each unit featured precision-formed corners and was overlaid with 2.5mm seamless hygienic cladding to create an easy-to-clean, non-porous surface.
The system was completed with flush, inset access panels that are hinged, lockable, and designed for quick and safe maintenance access, with anti-bacterial properties to support safe, efficient, and hygienic clinical care.
