The University of Portsmouths new Dental Outreach Centre will be used to train 80 dental students per year and provide improved access to NHS services for residents across Portsmouth, South East Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.Facilities include units for 20 dental chairs and four dental inter-oral radiography suites allowing the Dental Academy to treat around 3,000 people per year.
Working to very tight program dates, Inscape was tasked to provide not just the dental furniture, Corian work surfaces and all the usual washroom facilities, but also to design, manufacture and install the 24 open plan dental bay partition walls as well.
Liaising with the site team, inscape first produced a 3D visualisation of the dental bays, their layout and possible construction methods. With the agreement of the site team a construction method was then able to be decided upon and the bay walls were supplied as modular units for assembly on site. These comprised of laminate wall dividers with a skirting detail and solid surface cappings to the top edges. Provision was made within the dividers for both electrical and water services.
The dental units themselves were manufactured from MF MDF and fitted with Corian work surfaces complete with integral upstands, basins and thermostatically controlled taps. Where required all accessories such as stainless steel sinks, plaster troughs, tea points and storage shelving were also provided.
To complete the project inscape also provided a bespoke reception counter to greet patients as they entered the building and the usual washroom facilities such as Extremus WC cubicles, duct panels and vanity units.
